What this number is, and what it is not

It is a suggestion, not a settlement

NECC says so itself, in the notice below. What a farm is actually paid moves with quantity, grade, distance and whatever was agreed with the buyer. The NECC figure is the number the trade argues around, which is exactly why it is worth knowing before the call.

Namakkal is quoted on its own

It is one of the largest layer clusters in the country, so it gets its own production-centre rate instead of disappearing into a state average. That is also why its rate is watched well outside Tamil Nadu.

Source and NECC's own clarification

The daily egg prices suggested by NECC, on its official website or through any other medium (including verbal, print and digital media) are merely suggestive and not mandatory. The suggested prices are published solely for the reference and information of the trade and industry. NECC does not by itself or through any person enforce compliance or adherence with such suggested egg prices in any manner whatsoever. If any person not authorized by NECC chooses to disseminate NECC suggested prices through any medium, such person must also include the above clarification while disseminating NECC suggested prices of eggs.

Questions

What is the egg rate in Namakkal today?

The rate shown at the top of this page is the NECC-suggested price for the Namakkal zone for today, in rupees per egg. A tray of 30 and a hundred are worked out beside it. NECC publishes one figure per production centre per day.

Is the NECC rate the price I will actually be paid?

No. NECC states plainly that its prices are suggestive and not mandatory. What a farm is actually paid depends on the buyer, the quantity, the grade, how far it has to travel and what was agreed. Treat the NECC number as the reference the trade argues around, not a guaranteed price.

Why does Namakkal have its own egg rate?

Namakkal is one of the largest layer poultry clusters in India, so it is quoted as a production centre in its own right rather than folded into a state average. Its rate is watched well beyond Tamil Nadu because of the volume that moves out of it.

How often does this page update?

It re-reads NECC every hour and rebuilds. NECC itself posts once a day, so in practice the number changes once daily. The timestamp under the rate tells you exactly when it was last read.

How do I convert the rate to a tray or a hundred?

NECC quotes paise per egg. A tray is 30 eggs, so multiply by 30; a hundred is a straight multiply by 100. Both are already calculated on this page so nobody has to do it on a phone in a shed.
